In Kwazulu-Natal endless beaches of the Indian Ocean neighbor green hills of the Zululand and the grand Dragon Mountains. The main part of the territory is occupied by national parks and preserves. The most well-known are elephant park “Tembe” and national park “Hluhluwe-Imfolozi”, which is the home of the African “Big Five” and many other rare animals and birds. Durban is a large city port famous for its bazaars, beaches and coastal waters which are great for diving and surfing. One of the most popular entertainments in South Africa — diving in the cage for “meeting” a great white shark — is considered to be the local invention. In the province Kwazulu-Natal there are kilometers of luxurious beaches with sandy dunes. The seabed is covered with coral reefs which is quite rare for this latitude. Besides, in the pristine coastal waters live various underwater creatures: whales, dolphins and even white sharks. The village Chakaland is open for public. Here tourists can get acquainted with traditional way of life of Zulu people, who built a powerful state in the south of Africa 200 years ago. This is the place of the Zulu Kingdom and the relic Lake Santa-Lucia, designated by UNESCO as the world cultural heritage.
