Located in the heart of Rajasthan Ajmer is a small town with a very interesting past and visible signs of growth in culture and education. Today both state and privately owned industrial and infrastructure establishments coalesce to accelerate the development of trade, tourism and investments in the district.

The historic city of Ajmer, a green oasis in a picturesque valley, wrapped by the barren hills of the Aravali range and situated 132km west of current state capital — Jaipur, was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in 7th century A.D. Ajmer got its name from ’Ajay Meru’ or the invincible hill. Here Pal Chauchan built India’s first hill fort, Taragarh. Through times of war and peace, through serenity and sacrifice, it continued to be the power center of the Chauhan clan untill the end of the 12th century.

Today hundreds of years later Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage site for the Hindus and the Muslims from all over the world. Ajmer Dargah Sharif, being the final resting place of the great Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti, equally revered by both the Hindus and the Muslims, is visited by millions of people every year.

In addition, Ajmer is located about 14km away from the town of Pushkar with its famous Brahma Temple. The Pushkar lake is another sacred Hindu spot, the waters of which are believed to motivate spiritual growth, especially in the month of Karthik.

Thus, Ajmer is a place characterized by the perfect blend of the Indian culture and ethics with the diversity of other religions, communities, cultures, and languages — all coexisting and flourishing in peace and harmony. Beside local Hindu and Muslim population there are many other communities, such as Gujarati, Marathi, Malayali, southern Indian Sikhs, Catholics, and Parsi.
