With the resort at 2,300m and skiing way up to 3,230m, Val Thorens is hard to beat when it comes to great snow conditions. It’s also part of the huge Three Valleys ski area, totalling 600km of slopes that are linked by fast lifts and are highly rated for all kinds of skier — you’ll be in piste paradise whether it’s your first time skiing or your fiftieth. The compact town’s purpose-built, and loads of the accommodation is ski-in, ski-out, so it couldn’t be easier to get on the slopes. And it’s backed by some pretty impressive scenery too — surrounded on three sides by dramatic mountains, with pure white peaks as far as the eye can see. You can wrap up each day with live music and dancing in slopeside hotspots like La Folie Douce and 360 Bar, or a laid-back drink in town favourites like The Frog and Roastbeef pub. For a different kind of rush, whizz down Europe’s highest zipline at over 100km/h, soar above the valley on a paraglide flight, or race through the twists and turns of the Cosmojet, Europe’s longest toboggan run.
