The Boracay Island is located 300 km south of Manila and comprises 12 main beaches and numerous bays. The length of the island is 7 km; its width is 1 km. The official opening for tourists is related to the year of 1970, when one German traveler mentioned Boracay in his book, saying that it was amazing and secluded place with the best beaches he had ever seen. Due to much sunshine, white sandy beaches and wonderful nightlife Boracay has become an “Asian Ibiza” for tourists. It holds international competitions in beach volleyball, football, frisbee, surfing, kite-surfing and regatta “paraw” — the competition of Filipino boats, different fiestas and Bikini contests.
