Harbin is the largest city in the Northeast China with the population about 5 million people. The city was founded by the Russians, when the construction of Chinese Eastern Railway began. This event has left its mark in the cultural and architectural development. Zhongyang Avenue is a must-go. On both sides there are buildings constructed in European style. The distinction of the Harbin’s tourist development is the winter season. It’s one of the few places which are better to visit in winter, because Harbin is famous for its ice city. In winter Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival takes place in the Zhaolin Park. Every year more than 1500 sculptures are cut out of ice, which are then placed on the territory of 6,5 hectares. In summer Harbin is flourishing with greenery and flowers blossoming in shady parks. In the park “Europe and Asia Window” there are many architectural constructions of Europe and Asia in miniature. Tourists can find there the Triumphal Arch, the Kremlin and the Pyramid of Cheops. Here travelers can go boating on the lake, listening to the birds singing and enjoying the picturesque scenery.
