Penang is an incredible island located on the north-western coast of the peninsular Malaysia in the Indian Ocean. It features excellent beaches and unique historical monuments due to which it was called “the Pearl of Southeast Asia”. The island was discovered in 1786 by the English. Soon after it Penang became a large commercial center connecting the trade routes from Asia to England. Now it is a unique blend of Malaysian, Chinese and Indian cultures and its colonial past, which can be seen in its various historical and cultural sights. To the south-west of the capital city Georgetown raises the Penang Hill. Tourists can climb it by the cable train.
