Infrastructure

SPA

Open-air treatment pavilions. The spa is tucked into pockets of the rainforest, so every massage, facial, and scrub comes with a natural soundtrack. Treatments incorporate locally grown organic coffee, chocolate, and volcanic mud. Reservations required 24 hours before your visit. Here you can also experience yoga blended with the nature.

Sloth sanctuary

As you explore the grounds, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to spot these furry and cute tree-dwelling residents. Look up! There are planted thousands of Cecropia trees (Guarumos), which sloths love. Listen closely for leaf rustling, and scan the treetops’ canopy. Sloths can be difficult to spot to the untrained eye, so ask any of the naturalist guides to help point them out.

Rainforest

The hillside’s forest where the tents were built was razed to create grazing land. It has taken many years of painstaking reforestation work to bring the verdant forest back to its original beauty, and it will take many more until Mother Nature does her magical work and reclaim the land. The Tented Camp raises the bar on sustainable ecotourism and is a crucial part of Nayara’s ambitious undertaking to contribute to the long-term conservation of Costa Rica’s rainforests.

After dark

Experience the magic of the rainforest by night as you discover the hidden world of nocturnal creatures. Observe the many rare frogs that live in the ponds, from the diminutive red eye frog to the reticulated glass frog, identifiable by its yellow round spots and black dots on light green skin.

Nayara curated activities

Upon arrival, you’ll meet your personal naturalist guide, who will lead you on hiking and nature excursions and will organize any activities you want. Experience everything Costa Rica has to offer just the way you want it. The hotel’s team will take care of all the details, so you can focus on enjoying your vacation.

Adventure

Calling all thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies! Arenal is referred to as the adventure capital of Costa Rica for good reason. Experience zip lining across the top of the rainforest canopy, or rappelling down the side of Arenal’s waterfalls. Whether white-water rafting on the Sarapiqui River or hiking the Arenal Volcano, you will have the jungle adventure of a lifetime.

Walking and observation

Traverse hanging bridges and trek over dry lava fields to examine pristine rainforests. Discover waterfalls and crystal blue rivers, and soak in hot springs. Stand in the shadows of huge trees, the centuries-old guardians of the forest. Costa Rica is home to over 900 bird species, and Arenal has plenty of tanagers, hummingbirds, toucans, and oropendolas. The birds, multi-colored frogs and amphibians, volcano craters, and exotic plants all make for a unique region to explore on foot.

Cultural

Learn about coffee cultivation as you visit a plantation, and taste delicious hot chocolate freshly made with organic cacao. Discover the rainforest and the different species of plants and animals while you float along the many hectares of the jungle of the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. Visit The Proyecto Asis, where rescued animals are taken care of. Discover the arts and crafts of the Maleko indigenous population with an organized visit to a Maleko village.

On-property

Nayara grounds are bursting with wildlife. You can spot sloths and monkeys on the trails, or join a bird watching walk at dawn. After dark, you can join a frog scouting tour where you can see diminutive red-eyed tree frogs and blue-jean frogs in the ponds. The resort is also a botanist and gardener’s paradise. The trails are teeming with tropical plants and exotic flowers, from heliconias and orchids to cacao and plantain trees. The Armadillo Trail showcases fruit trees on both sides of the winding path.

Dining

The Tented Camp has access to all of the restaurants of sister hotels: Nayara Springs and Nayara Gardens. They are Relais & Chateaux properties and place rich taste and authentic flavors at the heart of everything they do. The five restaurants they have are distinct in look and feel—from an intimate tapas bar to a lively outdoor terrace, to a colorful “pulperia” that serves a fusion of Asian and Peruvian dishes. Chefs apply fine dining techniques to local ingredients and seasonal produce to delight you with a menu of sophisticated and delicious flavors.

La Terraza del arenal

This open-air family restaurant serves a-la-carte local and international food. With unparalleled views of the volcano from your table, you’ll enjoy delicious gourmet food and new spins on classic Costa Rican favorites. The hotel uses only local produce and fresh ingredients, source it’s own fish and meat and carry hundreds of bottles of wines from around the world. Don’t miss sitting at the “Bar Azul” and having the bartender prepare you his or her own tropical creation. Live local musicians every night add to the lively ambiance.

Asia — Luna

The menu incorporates Asian and Latin flavors, with sushi rolls, wok dishes, and fresh seafood specials. The décor resembles a “Pulperia,” a traditional Costa Rican bar. The chairs and tables are hand-painted by members of the indigenous Maleku tribe and depict local flora and fauna. Make sure to try the Nayara Roll, made of sweet plantains and cooked chicken, and the Chef’s signature dish of steamed fish cooked in plantain leaves.

Amor Loco

There’s something almost magical about walking from the tropical gardens into an unexpectedly plush room in the middle of the rainforest. Everything about AmorLoco will seduce you, from its ambiance to the food. The dishes are avant-garde and beautiful to behold—from the delicate stuffed zucchini lossoms and local hearts of palm salad to the red snapper and beef tenderloin. Live music adds to the warm, romantic ambiance. There are also three bars in the hotel: Nostalgia wine bar, Cielito Lindo swim up bar and Mi Cafecito Espresso bar.
